il gatto nero art

Hi! Jen here, a native of the Ruhr area, lives in Vienna with my favorite person and is the heart and soul of il gatto nero art. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember – previously with pencils and paints, now digitally. I've swapped paper and canvas for Procreate: more practical and flexible. This way, I have instant access to all the colors, textures, and brushes that wouldn't otherwise fit in my bag. My style? Rough, funny, a little off-kilter. Tim Burton has shaped my aesthetic, Poe my bookshelf, Tesla my thoughts. I work full-time with children with special needs – which shows me that not everything has to be perfect to be valuable. il gatto nero art is inspired by Poe's "The Black Cat." Ironic enough – because I'm actually a dog person. I love stars, music on repeat, and strange thoughts. And maybe you'll find a piece of yourself in my small, dark world. Feel free to watch my video.

  • Creativity

Creativity is when lines become figures that last. Digitally drawn with heart, mistakes, and rough edges that aren't smoothed away. Sometimes being creative means just keeping going, even when the world remains gray.

  • Inspiration

Inspiration often comes quietly, in the twilight, with an idea that won't let go. It reveals itself in small sketches and in moments when everything briefly falls silent. Often, a blank screen is enough to give rise to something new.

  • Freedom

Freedom here means allowing art to emerge as it wishes – without haste, without compromise. Sometimes dark, sometimes quiet. Space for lines, thoughts, and ideas to breathe. For all who see what lives between the lines.

  • Community

Art has the power to connect people. Community here means a quiet understanding between people who feel art. A place for all those who often can't find themselves in other things. Feel free to connect with me on Instagram. @il_gatto_nero_art
